A private villa retreat on Jl. Sempol, where the rice-field corridors of Mengwi meet the creative quarter of Canggu.
The R Villa Samalas occupies a quiet lane off Jl. Sempol in Pererenan, a residential pocket of Mengwi that sits at the meeting point of Bali's surf coast and its traditional inland villages.
Villa Samalas, Pererenan
The R Villa Samalas occupies a quiet lane off Jl. Sempol in Pererenan, a residential pocket of Mengwi that sits at the meeting point of Bali's surf coast and its traditional inland villages. The architecture draws on raw volcanic stone cladding for the exterior walls, teak-finished timber ceilings throughout the living pavilion, and floor-to-ceiling glazing that dissolves the boundary between interior and outdoor space. Four bedrooms are arranged to give each room genuine privacy while sharing a central open-plan living and pool terrace that captures the prevailing southerly breeze from morning to dusk.

Pererenan has established itself as one of the island's most considered neighbourhoods — home to independent coffee roasters, architecture studios, and long-stay travellers who prefer a village rhythm over the congestion of central Seminyak. The villa sits within walking distance of the black-sand beach at Pererenan, a surf break that draws both longboarders and experienced shortboarders depending on the swell direction. The surrounding lanes are lined with warung kitchens and boutique grocers that stock local produce, organic goods, and imported pantry staples with equal ease.
Elevate Villas Bali manages The R Villa Samalas with a focus on operational precision and unhurried hospitality. A dedicated villa manager is reachable via WhatsApp at all hours, and the property is prepared to a consistent standard before every arrival — fresh linens, stocked kitchen essentials, and a curated welcome. The team can arrange private in-villa dining, airport transfers from Ngurah Rai International, surf lessons at the beach a short walk away, and day trips to Tabanan, Uluwatu, or the rice terraces above Ubud.
For groups of up to four guests, the villa functions as a self-contained residence rather than a hotel unit. The kitchen is fully equipped for daily use, the pool runs uninterrupted through daylight hours, and the outdoor lounge is designed for long afternoons with no particular agenda. Direct bookings receive priority support, flexible check-in coordination, and the assurance of communicating directly with the managing team rather than a third-party intermediary.
Four bedrooms, open-plan living, a private pool, and the considered detail of a residence built for long stays and slow mornings.
Fibre broadband with speeds suited to video calls, streaming, and remote work throughout all indoor and outdoor areas.
Secure off-street parking for one vehicle within the villa compound, accessible directly from Jl. Sempol.
Gas range, refrigerator, espresso machine, rice cooker, blender, and a complete set of cookware and tableware for four.
Rectangular private pool maintained daily, running the length of the terrace. Filtered and treated, open from sunrise to midnight.
Individual split-system air conditioning units in all four bedrooms, independently controlled with remote and timer function.
Each bedroom has a private ensuite bathroom with rain shower or soaking tub, quality toiletries, and fresh towels replaced every two days.
On-request private chef service available for breakfast, dinner, or full-day catering. Arranged through the villa manager with 24 hours notice.
Private car transfer from Ngurah Rai International Airport arranged by the villa team. Journey time approximately 40 minutes.
Full villa clean and bed refresh each morning. Linen changed every three days or on request. Includes pool and terrace maintenance.
55-inch smart TV in the main living pavilion with access to Netflix and YouTube. HDMI input available for personal devices.
Electronic gate with keypad access and villa manager oversight. The compound is fully walled with in-compound outdoor lighting.
A maintained garden of heliconia, frangipani, and tropical palms surrounds the pool terrace, maintained by the gardening team each morning.
The largest bedroom features a king-framed bed set against volcanic stone feature wall, direct access to the pool terrace, a walk-in wardrobe, and an ensuite finished in honed grey limestone with a freestanding soaking tub.
A composed, light-filled room with king bed, full-height timber shutters that open to the garden, and an ensuite bathroom with open rain shower and dual vanity in warm terrazzo finish.
East-facing orientation fills this room with soft morning light. A queen bed, built-in reading nook, and ensuite with walk-in shower and locally sourced ceramic basins define the space without excess.
The most secluded of the four rooms, elevated slightly above ground level with a treetop outlook. Queen bed, blackout shutters, and a private ensuite with an industrial-brass rain shower fitting.
A single open volume connects dining, lounge, and kitchen beneath a double-height teak ceiling. Full-width sliding glass panels retract entirely to merge the interior with the pool terrace and outdoor lounge beyond.
A rectangular pool runs the length of the terrace, flanked by a teak sun deck with four loungers and a covered outdoor dining area that seats the full group comfortably for meals at any hour.
Your driver turns off the main road and onto Jl. Sempol just as the late-afternoon light goes gold across the rice paddies to the north. The villa gate opens onto a courtyard of smooth concrete and tropical planting, and the first thing you notice is the quiet — not the enforced silence of an isolated resort, but the organic stillness of a working neighbourhood that has not yet traded its character for tourist infrastructure.
Morning begins with light flooding the east-facing bedroom walls. The kitchen has everything you need to make a proper breakfast, and the pool is already warm from the previous day's sun. By nine o'clock, the board is rinsed and standing at the gate — Pererenan Beach is a short walk down a shaded lane, and the break is at its most organised in the early swell before the wind picks up. You return mid-morning, rinse off at the outdoor shower, and the rest of the day arranges itself without pressure.
Afternoon at the villa is an exercise in doing precisely what you came to Bali to do: reading in the shade of the living pavilion, ordering a late lunch from one of the warung spots the villa team recommends, or arranging for the in-villa chef to arrive at six and prepare a four-course dinner while you sit at the pool with a glass of something cold. The teak ceiling above the dining table catches the last of the day's heat and releases it slowly through the evening, making dinner outside entirely comfortable well into the night.
By ten o'clock the lane outside is quiet again. The pool lights run on a timer, the outdoor lounge holds the warmth of the day, and four guests who arrived as strangers to a new neighbourhood leave with a precise mental map of exactly where they will return.

10 minutes by foot
A black-sand beach with a consistent reef break favoured by longboarders in the morning. Quieter than neighbouring Canggu beaches and lined with low-key warung.

20 minutes by car
One of Bali's most architecturally striking sea temples, built on a coastal rock formation accessible at low tide. Best visited in the late afternoon when the crowds thin.

15 minutes by car
The nearest urban hub with independent coffee shops, design stores, produce markets, and a concentrated dining scene ranging from Balinese warungs to international kitchens.

25 minutes by car
Pura Taman Ayun, a royal water temple dating to the 17th century, set within moated gardens and recognised as a UNESCO-associated site. Calm and largely tourist-free on weekday mornings.
A neighbourhood that resisted the pace of Canggu's commercial decade, Pererenan still operates on a residential rhythm. Morning surf, afternoon coffee, evenings that belong to no particular plan. This is what the slow-travel conversation is actually about.
From Pererenan through to Echo Beach and Batu Bolong, the west Bali coast holds a sequence of reef and beach breaks suited to different skill levels and swell directions. A practical guide to reading conditions from the villa gate.
Arrive before the coach parties and the sea temple at Tanah Lot is a different place entirely. The tidal rock formation, the adjacent temple gardens, and the fishing village to the south are all worth the 20-minute drive from Pererenan.
Standard check-in is from 3:00 PM. If your flight arrives earlier, the villa team can arrange early check-in subject to availability, or store your luggage securely while the villa is prepared. Please notify the team at least 24 hours in advance for early arrival requests.
